Mother Teresa and Mahatma Gandhi have inspired me to understand love

June 15, 2010

Mother Teresa and Mahatma Gandhi have inspired me to understand love. Love is all about giving and not receiving. It is not a give and take emotion. Mother Teresa gave her entire life for people whom she did not know, giving them help, giving them shelter and showering love on them without any greed. Mahatma Gandhi not only fought for himself but fought for entire nation and in such a way which is unmatchable.  They gave everything for others. One can criticize Gandhi for some of his action which does not reflects his love for other, but you can’t expect a person to remain same forever.  They made me understand that Ego does not play a part in Love. If there is ego in your mind then Love cannot grow. Love is about humbleness. It also reflects what told in Gita by Krishna, ‘Karam kar phal ki assha mat kar’. Give kindness to people, care for them, and do not care for the result. It will come back to you in one way or another.

I see the world around me and I get irritated by watching them lead their life with jealousy, greed, anger. When people talk, they only end up mocking at someone. For e.g. Two women were gossiping. First one said “ do you know Mr. Mehta son got 98% in board exam? But he always used to play around, how did he got such marks?” They question his ability and actually there are not happy. I have noticed people do not get happy with other people success. Competition between people is killing the Love.

I have learned that Love happens when you are not selfish. Its an selfless act. Having said this, still I have not completely comes in terms with it. I, myself does not always lead my life without ego. But yes I am learning and I have realised that letting off your Ego even slightly, does make your life a bit more beautiful. But, I also think Ego is essential in life. It helps in gaining self respect. I am in a bit of dilemma, which path to choose, A life filled with Love and no Ego or a life striking a balance between Love and Ego.
